Food Drive: Thank you!

On October 21, 2022, the bright students of the Finer Future Foundation were tasked with collecting food, monetary donations, hygiene products, and clothes from different homes around the GTA to support the Red Door Shelter and YWCA Shelter. In order to accomplish our goal of supporting our partnering shelters, we needed to door-knock at various households we were not familiar with, which was honestly quite daunting at first, especially because we didn’t know what to expect. We might have encountered some not-so-friendly people, but I can truthfully say that the amount of genuine, generous, and kind-hearted people we came across definitely overwhelmed the bad apples in the bunch. Over 50 homes supported us by donating food and/or monetary donations, and from all of our donations, we were able to make over 25 care boxes that will be sent to our partnering shelters. I was personally so touched by this entire initiative because it allowed me to see the extent to which people are dedicated to supporting homeless shelters in the Toronto area. This door-knocking experience was also a way for us to connect with people in our neighbourhood and truly get to know who they are. Some people in my community had never heard of a food drive before, and we were able to be their first. Due to the large outpouring of support, we have decided to expand our partnership with more shelters across the GTA. This initiative brought us one step closer to accomplishing our goal: providing the homeless community with the resources needed to survive and thrive.
