Saturday, February 4 marked the second fundraiser in the history of the Finer Future Foundation! What better way to follow the food/clothing drive than an incredible fair at the Fairview Library? The event featured an entirely home-cooked spread of delicious goods (ie, muffins, cookies, donuts, scones) baked by the finer future team, with chocolate-covered strawberries as the most popular item; I still dream about those strawberries!

The goal of the event was to raise money for our partnering shelters, including the Red Door Shelter, YWCA Shelter, Native Women’s Shelter, and Youth Without Shelter. Overall, over $300 was raised through donations from the over 35 participants that took their time to spread awareness for youth homelessness. Aside from the incredibly successful bake sale, activities such as bracelet making, shoebox painting, card writing, and a magic/card station generated massive engagement at the event! The shoebox station was designed to have participants paint ordinary boxes pink as those boxes will be used as donations to our partnering shelters with household items in them.

The card and bracelet-making stations were meant to act as accessories added to the shoeboxes to make the donations even more personal. This event allowed us to take one step closer to ending the stigma surrounding homelessness in our community. The success of this event motivates us to work even harder than we were before to do our part in the fight to end homelessness. Stay tuned for more events!
